THE ORGANIZATION

QueensCare is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that provides accessible healthcare to low-income Los Angeles residents. Furthering the mission established a century ago by the Franciscan Sisters of the Sacred Heart, QueensCare brings preventative and direct care to the communities it serves through screenings, treatment, and educational initiatives. In addition to providing direct patient care, QueensCare gives charitable grants to other nonprofit healthcare organizations and works with the community, providers, and governmental agencies to develop and implement healthcare programs. As a faith-based organization, QueensCare cares for the whole person, in a culturally sensitive and appropriate manner.

In addition to its own programs, QueensCare partners with diverse faith communities, Los Angeles Unified School District, Hollywood Presbyterian Medical Center, and the University of Southern California, to name a few.

THE POSITION

The President & Chief Executive Officer (CEO) reports to the Board of Directors (the Board) and is responsible for leading the development and execution of QueensCare’s and its affiliates’ (“QueensCare”) mission and long-term goals. QueensCare has $495 million in net assets and a $20 million operating budget. With a total of approximately 50 full-time employees, the President & CEO’s senior leadership team includes the Chief Financial Officer, Chief Innovation & Administration Officer, and Director of Operations. Also reporting to the CEO are the General Counsel, Consulting Clinical Director, and Business Consultant, all independent contractors.

The President & CEO identifies and pursues strategic business opportunities, developing policies and procedures for Board approval, and ensures the effective implementation of organizational initiatives. The President & CEO provides leadership across QueensCare and its related entities, overseeing all programs and services. Additionally, the President & CEO serves as the primary spokesperson and representative of QueensCare, fostering relationships with key partners and stakeholders in the community. 

Strategic Planning and Execution

  • Develops short- and long-range strategic plans for Board approval and implements them in an effective and timely manner.
  • Understands and ensures compliance with the Articles of Incorporation (“Article III”). Ensures organizational compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
  • Identifies and monitors operational performance indicators.
  • Identifies and responds appropriately to correct unsatisfactory trends or results.
  • Promotes continuous quality improvement throughout the organization.
  • Minimizes risk by effectively managing legal issues and regulatory requirements with the appropriate use of internal and external legal counsel.
  • Communicates effectively with staff, the Board, grantees, external stakeholders, legislators, and community members, often serving as an advocate/spokesperson for the organization and those it serves.
  • Demonstrates, and models for staff, transparency with the Board, providing relevant and meaningful operational and financial reports to it and its committees.

Fiscal Oversight & Administration 

  • In partnership with the Chief Financial Officer, develop an annual operating plan and budget for approval by the Board.
  • Ensures compliance with Article III at all times.
  • Provides oversight of resources to ensure they are within budget guidelines; ensures there are ongoing adequate and appropriate accounting and operational controls in place.
  • Provides oversight of personnel policies and procedures ensuring they conform to current laws and regulations.
  • Oversees the development and management of the grant strategy focused on mission-aligned programming.
  • Develops ways to evaluate the impact and effectiveness of the organization’s grantmaking to inform decision-making and as a tool for Board reporting.
  • In collaboration with the Board and staff, creates and administers the grantmaking programs, policies, and procedures that fulfill the mission, taking into consideration the legacy, activities, and successes.
  • Engages in ongoing research and information gathering to ensure the organization is making plans about the present and future, understanding and anticipating changes in the landscape.

  • Develops organizational policies for submission to the Board, implementing and ensuring compliance with same.
  • Complies with and promotes organizational policies and procedures.
  • Provides direction and leadership, modeling organizational values to achieving the organization’s mission, vision, and strategic goals.
  • Demonstrates commitment and accountability, leading by example, and achieving optimal performance of the organization.  

Management Functions

  • Consistently adheres to a high standard of professional ethics and acts as a role model to others.
  • Supervises direct reports to include screening, interviewing, hiring, disciplining, and terminating.
  • Fosters a culture of service, excellence, cooperation, and accountability to create an environment that attracts, retains, and motivates top quality staff.
  • Ensures a culture of inclusion and equal opportunity by fostering a qualified and diverse staff across all levels of the organization.

TRAITS AND CHARACTERISTICS DESIRED 

The President & CEO must be a strategic, visionary leader with exceptional energy, initiative, and a deep commitment to QueensCare’s mission. This individual will provide partnership to the Board, guiding it in fulfilling the mission through community-centered programming. The ideal candidate will demonstrate integrity, resilience, and a collaborative leadership style, fostering a culture that prioritizes both mission impact and operational excellence.  

The ideal candidate will possess strong financial acumen, with a deep understanding of budgeting principles, financial management, and investment strategies. Exceptional oral and written communication skills—including active listening, strong presentation abilities, and emotional intelligence—are essential. As the organization’s leader, they must communicate effectively at all levels to build trust, enhance performance, and foster positive employee relations. 

This leader must be adaptable and decisive, navigating a dynamic environment with strong analytical skills to assess complex information and make sound, strategic decisions. The ideal candidate will have experience leading change and managing crises, providing steady leadership that instills confidence and trust across the organization.  

Proven team leadership is required. The President & CEO will cultivate a collaborative, transparent, and inclusive culture, empowering staff through a flexible and team-oriented management style. A demonstrated commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion is vital to ensuring these values remain at the core of QueensCare’s culture and operations. 

CAREER TRACK LEADING TO THIS POSITION  

The ideal candidate will have experience in the philanthropic sector as a grantor or grantee, though individuals with transferable skills from other sectors – particularly those with a strong understanding of finance/accounting, philanthropy, and operations – will also be considered. The ability to build and manage effective board relationships collaboratively and forge pragmatic solutions on healthcare issues is essential. Experience working with faith communities is a plus. 

Knowledge in real estate management, investment management, nonprofit law, and health care is strongly valued, as is experience managing finances (accounting, budgeting, controls, and reporting), endowments, and human resources at a foundation or dynamic nonprofit organization. Experience working with investment consultants and money managers is valued.

EDUCATION        

A bachelor’s degree in business administration, public health, or other relevant disciplines is required. An advanced degree in hospital administration, business administration, or other relevant field is highly preferred.

 COMPENSATION & ADDITIONAL CONSIDERATIONS

The annual salary range for this position is $375,000-450,0000. Relocation assistance, if needed, is negotiable. A comprehensive and competitive benefits package will be provided.
